Tomi for Android
A native Android app that keeps your meeting audio alive even when the screen turns off — and lets you skip the browser entirely.
Install in 4 steps
-
Tap the Download button above
Your phone will save
Tomi.apkto its Downloads folder. If your browser warns that "this type of file can harm your device," tap Download anyway — that's normal for any app installed outside the Play Store. -
Allow installs from your browser
The first time you do this, Android will block the install and show a button like Settings or Allow from this source. Tap it and toggle Allow from this source on for whichever browser you used (usually Chrome). Then tap back.
-
Tap the file in your Downloads
Open your Notification shade or Downloads folder and tap
Tomi.apk. Confirm Install. If Play Protect flashes a warning, tap Install anyway — Tomi is signed by us, just not by Google. -
Open Tomi and enter your workspace
On first launch the app asks for your workspace name (the part before
.tomiapp.ca— for examplehelix). Enter it once, sign in with your normal Tomi email + password, and you're set. Grant the microphone and notification prompts when asked.
Why install the app instead of the browser?
- Calls survive screen-off. The browser disconnects the call within ~30 seconds of locking your phone. The Tomi app keeps it running.
- No more permission prompts. Microphone and notifications are granted once, on first launch.
- One-tap home-screen launch. Skips the browser, lands you straight on your workspace.
- Bluetooth headset routing works the way you'd expect on a phone-call app.
Frequently asked questions
Is this on the Google Play Store?
Not yet. We're shipping this as a direct-install (sideloaded) APK while we collect feedback from early customers. A polished Play Store listing is on the roadmap.
Why does my phone say "this app could harm your device"?
Android shows that warning for any app that wasn't downloaded from the Play Store, regardless of who signed it. Tomi.apk is signed by us, but Google's Play Protect doesn't recognize the signature yet. Tapping Install anyway is safe — you're trusting Tomi the same way you do when you sign in to tomiapp.ca in your browser.
Will I lose my work if I uninstall it later?
No. Everything lives on your Tomi workspace, not on the phone. If you uninstall the app and use the browser instead, your projects, transcripts, and briefs are exactly where you left them.
How do updates work without the Play Store?
For now, come back to this page and re-download. The app will tell you when a newer version is available. Once we publish to the Play Store, updates will be automatic.
What about iPhone?
iPhones can use Tomi as a Progressive Web App today — open your-workspace.tomiapp.ca in Safari and tap Share → Add to Home Screen. A native iOS app is on the roadmap after Android stabilizes.
I don't see "Allow from this source" anywhere.
On Android 8 and newer, the toggle appears the moment you tap an APK. On older Android versions, find it under Settings → Security → Install unknown apps. If your device is managed by your employer (MDM), they may have to enable sideloading for you — ask your IT contact.
